Quick answer

To send a printable planner from Instagram comments, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account to DM Spark, create a post-comment Spark for PLANNER, and send a message with a link button. Link to a download page that labels the printable versions and paper sizes.

When to use this automation

A planning reel demonstrates your weekly layout; the DM gives viewers the blank version. This works for habit trackers, weekly planners, or creator content calendars when the download matches what you show.

  • TriggerA keyword comment on the selected Instagram post or reel.
  • KeywordPLANNER
  • DeliveryLink to a download page that labels the printable versions and paper sizes.

How to set it up in DM Spark

  1. Prepare the destination

Export a clean printable with the paper sizes and formats you promise. Put the files on a public download page and label each version. Include a filled example separately so viewers do not accidentally print the demonstration instead of the blank template.

  2. Connect Instagram and create a Spark

Sign in to DM Spark on the web and connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Instagram’s login. From the dashboard, choose Create Spark, select the correct connected account, and give it a name that identifies the resource and campaign.

  3. Choose the trigger and scope

Under When someone…, choose “comments on your posts”. Select only the post or reel promoting this resource. Leave Every post, including future posts off when other posts offer different resources.

  4. Add PLANNER as the keyword

Add PLANNER in the keywords field. Choose With keywords rather than Every comment so unrelated replies do not receive this offer. Use the same word in your public invitation and avoid overlapping active keyword Sparks.

  5. Write the DM and add the link button

Under Then, in their DMs, choose One message. Use this delivery text: “Here’s the weekly planner. Choose A4 or US Letter on the download page; both are blank versions ready to print.” Add a link button labeled “Download planner” and paste your destination URL. Link to a download page that labels the printable versions and paper sizes. Check the message and button in the phone preview.

  6. Save, go live, and test

Save the Spark and check that it is Live; if it is a draft or paused, choose Go live and complete any post selection. Open the DM link on a phone, download both sizes, and inspect the print preview for clipped text or unexpected scaling. Your own connected account’s comments do not trigger the Spark.

  7. Publish the invitation and check results

Add the example invitation below to your caption and on-screen text once the test works. Review messages sent, people reached, and link clicks on the Spark. Use the destination platform’s reports to check outcomes beyond link clicks.

Adapt these examples to the resource you actually offer. Replace the example destination with your own tested URL in the link-button field.

What to check before promoting it

Check the exported PDF rather than only the design file. Small text, clipped margins, and missing blank pages are problems the automation cannot fix. For a paid planner, replace the public download with the store page.

Open the DM link on a phone, download both sizes, and inspect the print preview for clipped text or unexpected scaling.

Choose a simple delivery or an optional sequence

This walkthrough uses One message to deliver the requested link directly. Ask, then send is also available on Free if you want an opening button before the link. Each outgoing DM counts toward your allowance.

On the Creator plan, a sequence can add email capture or an eligible reminder. For comment triggers, the person must tap or reply before another DM can be sent; clicking a website link alone does not count as that reply. Later messages must stay within Instagram’s allowed messaging window. See the Spark setup guide and email capture guide before adding those steps.

Questions

Can I offer multiple printable versions in one DM?

Yes. Use up to three separate link buttons or one download page with clearly labeled options.

Does DM Spark store the planner PDF?

No. Host it on your website, file-sharing service, or store and provide the accessible URL in the Spark.

Can I set this up on DM Spark Free?

Yes. This setup uses One message, available on Free with 500 messages per calendar month and one connected account. The Creator plan adds custom sequences and email capture, with 25,000 included messages per billing period.

Why did my test not send a DM?

Check that the Spark is Live, Instagram is connected, the keyword is saved, and you have messages remaining. Use a new comment on a selected post from a second account; your own connected account’s comments do not trigger it. Check the Spark’s status for a connection or delivery issue before repeating the test.
