Send a Canva template from Instagram comments
Send a reusable Canva design from a tutorial.

Quick answer
To send a Canva template from Instagram comments, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account to DM Spark, create a post-comment Spark for TEMPLATE, and send a message with a link button. The button opens your Canva template link or a page explaining how to access it.
When to use this automation
A design tutorial can show a finished carousel while viewers need a reusable starting point. Send the template shown in the video so they can build their own version rather than copying slides by hand.
- TriggerA keyword comment on the selected Instagram post or reel.
- KeywordTEMPLATE
- DeliveryThe button opens your Canva template link or a page explaining how to access it.
How to set it up in DM Spark
Prepare the destination
Prepare a Canva sharing destination that lets viewers make their own copy. Verify that your Canva account offers the sharing option you intend to use. Note any paid assets or account requirements in the destination, and test the link in another account.
Connect Instagram and create a Spark
Sign in to DM Spark on the web and connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Instagram’s login. From the dashboard, choose Create Spark, select the correct connected account, and give it a name that identifies the resource and campaign.
Choose the trigger and scope
Under When someone…, choose “comments on your posts”. Select only the post or reel promoting this resource. Leave Every post, including future posts off when other posts offer different resources.
Add TEMPLATE as the keyword
Add TEMPLATE in the keywords field. Choose With keywords rather than Every comment so unrelated replies do not receive this offer. Use the same word in your public invitation and avoid overlapping active keyword Sparks.
Write the DM and add the link button
Under Then, in their DMs, choose One message. Use this delivery text: “Here’s the five-slide carousel template. Open the link to make your own copy; the instructions explain any Canva account requirements.” Add a link button labeled “Open the template” and paste your destination URL. The button opens your Canva template link or a page explaining how to access it. Check the message and button in the phone preview.
Save, go live, and test
Save the Spark and check that it is Live; if it is a draft or paused, choose Go live and complete any post selection. Use a second account to request the DM, then open the template in a separate Canva account and confirm it creates a usable copy. Your own connected account’s comments do not trigger the Spark.
Publish the invitation and check results
Add the example invitation below to your caption and on-screen text once the test works. Review messages sent, people reached, and link clicks on the Spark. Use the destination platform’s reports to check outcomes beyond link clicks.
Caption and DM copy you can use
Adapt these examples to the resource you actually offer. Replace the example destination with your own tested URL in the link-button field.

What to check before promoting it
Do not send an edit link to your working original. Test whether another user can copy the template without changing your source design. If this is a paid template, send the store page first and deliver access through your purchase process.
Use a second account to request the DM, then open the template in a separate Canva account and confirm it creates a usable copy.
Choose a simple delivery or an optional sequence
This walkthrough uses One message to deliver the requested link directly. Ask, then send is also available on Free if you want an opening button before the link. Each outgoing DM counts toward your allowance.
On the Creator plan, a sequence can add email capture or an eligible reminder. For comment triggers, the person must tap or reply before another DM can be sent; clicking a website link alone does not count as that reply. Later messages must stay within Instagram’s allowed messaging window. See the Spark setup guide and email capture guide before adding those steps.
Questions
Will everyone be able to use the Canva template for free?
That depends on the template’s assets and Canva requirements. Check with a separate account and clearly describe any requirements before sharing.
Does DM Spark create the template-sharing link?
No. Create and verify the sharing link in Canva, then add it to the Spark.
Can I set this up on DM Spark Free?
Yes. This setup uses One message, available on Free with 500 messages per calendar month and one connected account. The Creator plan adds custom sequences and email capture, with 25,000 included messages per billing period.
Why did my test not send a DM?
Check that the Spark is Live, Instagram is connected, the keyword is saved, and you have messages remaining. Use a new comment on a selected post from a second account; your own connected account’s comments do not trigger it. Check the Spark’s status for a connection or delivery issue before repeating the test.
