Auto DM people who comment a keyword
Comment a keyword, get the link by DM. The most common Instagram automation.
Updated

Quick answer
Create a comment automation on the post or reel, choose a keyword like LINK, and write the DM with your link. When someone comments that keyword, DM Spark sends them the DM within seconds through Meta's official Instagram API. Every comment also counts as engagement on the post.
Why comment-to-DM works
Links in Instagram captions aren't clickable, so "link in bio" asks people to leave the post, find your profile, and hunt for the right link. Commenting one word is easier, and the link lands in their inbox where they can tap it now or later.
It also helps the post. Comments are engagement, so a post that asks for a keyword tends to collect more of them. Read more in DM automation vs. link in bio.
How to set it up
Pick the post or reel
Create a Spark, choose "comments on a post", and select the post. To prepare one before publishing, use "comments on your next post" instead.
Add your keyword
Add one or more keywords, like LINK, GUIDE, or RECIPE. Matching ignores capitals. You can also reply to every comment instead of only keyword comments.
Write the DM
Write the message and add your link as a button. Choose One message to send it right away, or Ask, then send to send it after they tap a button.
Optionally reply publicly
Turn on a public reply, such as "Sent! Check your DMs." DM Spark posts it under the comment after the DM is sent and can skip a share of comments so replies don't all look the same.
Go live and ask for the comment
Test from a second account, then tell viewers exactly what to do: "Comment GUIDE and I'll DM it to you."
Ideas that work well
- RECIPE for the full recipe from a cooking reel.
- GUIDE for a free PDF or checklist, with email capture on the Creator plan.
- SHOP for the product links in a haul or try-on video.
- CODE for a discount code during a sale.
- BOOK for your booking or waitlist page.
Questions
What is comment-to-DM on Instagram?
Comment-to-DM is an automation that sends a private message to anyone who comments a chosen keyword on your post or reel. It's usually used to deliver a link, since links in captions and comments aren't clickable.
Does it work on Reels and carousels?
Yes. It works on any feed post, reel, or carousel on your connected professional account.
Will it reply to my own comments?
No. Comments from the account that owns the post are ignored, so you can reply to people in the comments yourself.
Can I send more than one message to a commenter?
Instagram allows one private message in response to a comment until the person replies. Use Ask, then send: the first message has a button, and the link or next step follows once they tap it.
Can one post have more than one keyword?
Yes. Add as many keywords as you like to the post's Spark. Any of them triggers the same message.
