Quick answer

To send recipe links from Instagram comments, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account to DM Spark, create a post-comment Spark for RECIPE, and send a message with a link button. Link to the exact recipe page; DM Spark sends the link in Instagram rather than creating or hosting the recipe.

When to use this automation

Your cooking reel shows the finished dish, but viewers need ingredient amounts and instructions. A RECIPE Spark connects that specific reel to the full recipe so you can answer the link request without typing it repeatedly.

  • TriggerA keyword comment on the selected Instagram post or reel.
  • KeywordRECIPE
  • DeliveryLink to the exact recipe page; DM Spark sends the link in Instagram rather than creating or hosting the recipe.

How to set it up in DM Spark

  1. Prepare the destination

Publish the complete recipe on your blog or a public recipe page. Include ingredient quantities, timings, substitutions, and a print option. Open it on a phone while signed out; the viewer should reach the dish shown in the reel rather than your blog homepage.

  2. Connect Instagram and create a Spark

Sign in to DM Spark on the web and connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Instagram’s login. From the dashboard, choose Create Spark, select the correct connected account, and give it a name that identifies the resource and campaign.

  3. Choose the trigger and scope

Under When someone…, choose “comments on your posts”. Select only the post or reel promoting this resource. Leave Every post, including future posts off when other posts offer different resources.

  4. Add RECIPE as the keyword

Add RECIPE in the keywords field. Choose With keywords rather than Every comment so unrelated replies do not receive this offer. Use the same word in your public invitation and avoid overlapping active keyword Sparks.

  5. Write the DM and add the link button

Under Then, in their DMs, choose One message. Use this delivery text: “Here’s the one-pan lemon pasta from the reel. The full ingredients and method are on this page. Enjoy!” Add a link button labeled “Get the recipe” and paste your destination URL. Link to the exact recipe page; DM Spark sends the link in Instagram rather than creating or hosting the recipe. Check the message and button in the phone preview.

  6. Save, go live, and test

Save the Spark and check that it is Live; if it is a draft or paused, choose Go live and complete any post selection. Comment RECIPE from a second account, open the DM button, and confirm it leads to the pasta recipe, including the ingredients and print view. Your own connected account’s comments do not trigger the Spark.

  7. Publish the invitation and check results

Add the example invitation below to your caption and on-screen text once the test works. Review messages sent, people reached, and link clicks on the Spark. Use the destination platform’s reports to check outcomes beyond link clicks.

Adapt these examples to the resource you actually offer. Replace the example destination with your own tested URL in the link-button field.

What to check before promoting it

Keep the post selection narrow. A pasta reel and a cookie reel can both use RECIPE when they have separate Sparks on separate posts. Attaching one recipe Spark to every post would send the same dish even when someone requested something else.

Comment RECIPE from a second account, open the DM button, and confirm it leads to the pasta recipe, including the ingredients and print view.

Choose a simple delivery or an optional sequence

This walkthrough uses One message to deliver the requested link directly. Ask, then send is also available on Free if you want an opening button before the link. Each outgoing DM counts toward your allowance.

On the Creator plan, a sequence can add email capture or an eligible reminder. For comment triggers, the person must tap or reply before another DM can be sent; clicking a website link alone does not count as that reply. Later messages must stay within Instagram’s allowed messaging window. See the Spark setup guide and email capture guide before adding those steps.

Questions

Can I use RECIPE on every food reel?

Yes, with separate post-specific Sparks that each point to the right dish. One every-post Spark sends the same resource across posts.

Can I send a recipe PDF instead?

Yes. Host the PDF at a publicly accessible URL and use that URL for the link button. Test it without your own account signed in.

Can I set this up on DM Spark Free?

Yes. This setup uses One message, available on Free with 500 messages per calendar month and one connected account. The Creator plan adds custom sequences and email capture, with 25,000 included messages per billing period.

Why did my test not send a DM?

Check that the Spark is Live, Instagram is connected, the keyword is saved, and you have messages remaining. Use a new comment on a selected post from a second account; your own connected account’s comments do not trigger it. Check the Spark’s status for a connection or delivery issue before repeating the test.
