Quick answer

To send a grocery list from Instagram comments, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account to DM Spark, create a post-comment Spark for GROCERY, and send a message with a link button. The button should open a public checklist with the quantities promised in the video.

When to use this automation

A grocery-haul video creates a practical question: what exactly should I buy? Deliver a checklist organized by store section so viewers can use it during their next shopping trip.

  • TriggerA keyword comment on the selected Instagram post or reel.
  • KeywordGROCERY
  • DeliveryThe button should open a public checklist with the quantities promised in the video.

How to set it up in DM Spark

  1. Prepare the destination

Make a mobile-friendly checklist with quantities and the number of servings covered. Choose an accessible document or PDF, remove private notes, and enable view access for people who have the link. Specify the meal-prep week it belongs to.

  2. Connect Instagram and create a Spark

Sign in to DM Spark on the web and connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Instagram’s login. From the dashboard, choose Create Spark, select the correct connected account, and give it a name that identifies the resource and campaign.

  3. Choose the trigger and scope

Under When someone…, choose “comments on your posts”. Select only the post or reel promoting this resource. Leave Every post, including future posts off when other posts offer different resources.

  4. Add GROCERY as the keyword

Add GROCERY in the keywords field. Choose With keywords rather than Every comment so unrelated replies do not receive this offer. Use the same word in your public invitation and avoid overlapping active keyword Sparks.

  5. Write the DM and add the link button

Under Then, in their DMs, choose One message. Use this delivery text: “Here’s the shopping list for the five lunches in this video. Quantities are for one person for five days.” Add a link button labeled “Open grocery list” and paste your destination URL. The button should open a public checklist with the quantities promised in the video. Check the message and button in the phone preview.

  6. Save, go live, and test

Save the Spark and check that it is Live; if it is a draft or paused, choose Go live and complete any post selection. Use a second account to request the list and open the link without your document-owner login. Check quantities against the five lunches. Your own connected account’s comments do not trigger the Spark.

  7. Publish the invitation and check results

Add the example invitation below to your caption and on-screen text once the test works. Review messages sent, people reached, and link clicks on the Spark. Use the destination platform’s reports to check outcomes beyond link clicks.

Caption and DM copy you can use

Adapt these examples to the resource you actually offer. Replace the example destination with your own tested URL in the link-button field.

What to check before promoting it

A document that opens for you may still require permission for followers. Test it signed out. Do not update an old post’s link to an unrelated week; viewers discovering the original reel should still get its original list.

Use a second account to request the list and open the link without your document-owner login. Check quantities against the five lunches.

Choose a simple delivery or an optional sequence

This walkthrough uses One message to deliver the requested link directly. Ask, then send is also available on Free if you want an opening button before the link. Each outgoing DM counts toward your allowance.

On the Creator plan, a sequence can add email capture or an eligible reminder. For comment triggers, the person must tap or reply before another DM can be sent; clicking a website link alone does not count as that reply. Later messages must stay within Instagram’s allowed messaging window. See the Spark setup guide and email capture guide before adding those steps.

Questions

Can followers edit my original grocery list?

That depends on your document permissions. Use view-only sharing or a downloadable copy so the original stays intact.

Can I send both the shopping list and the recipes?

Yes. One message supports up to three link buttons. Label each destination clearly, such as Shopping list and Recipes.

Can I set this up on DM Spark Free?

Yes. This setup uses One message, available on Free with 500 messages per calendar month and one connected account. The Creator plan adds custom sequences and email capture, with 25,000 included messages per billing period.

Why did my test not send a DM?

Check that the Spark is Live, Instagram is connected, the keyword is saved, and you have messages remaining. Use a new comment on a selected post from a second account; your own connected account’s comments do not trigger it. Check the Spark’s status for a connection or delivery issue before repeating the test.
