Send photography gear links through Instagram DMs
Answer GEAR DMs with your current filming kit.
Updated

Quick answer
To send photography gear links through Instagram DMs, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account to DM Spark, create a DM-keyword Spark for GEAR, and send a message with a link button. The link opens your maintained gear page; DM Spark does not import retailer inventory.
When to use this automation
Behind-the-scenes clips often lead to the same question: what camera and light are you using? A GEAR keyword reply gives viewers a current kit list without requiring you to find that message every time.
- TriggerAn incoming Instagram DM containing your keyword.
- KeywordGEAR
- DeliveryThe link opens your maintained gear page; DM Spark does not import retailer inventory.
How to set it up in DM Spark
Prepare the destination
Publish a gear page with the exact camera, lens, light, and accessories. Explain which pieces are essential for the setup and which are optional. For multiple rigs, use one clearly organized page rather than assuming a DM identifies the video the sender watched.
Connect Instagram and create a Spark
Sign in to DM Spark on the web and connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Instagram’s login. From the dashboard, choose Create Spark, select the correct connected account, and give it a name that identifies the resource and campaign.
Choose the trigger and scope
Under When someone…, choose “sends you a DM”. This keyword applies to incoming DMs on the connected account. Keep it distinct from other active DM-keyword Sparks.
Add GEAR as the keyword
Add GEAR in the keywords field. Use the Keywords in the message field. Use the same word in your public invitation and avoid overlapping active keyword Sparks.
Write the DM and add the link button
Under Then, in their DMs, choose One message. Use this delivery text: “Here’s my current filming kit. The page separates the camera setup from lighting and lists optional accessories.” Add a link button labeled “See filming gear” and paste your destination URL. The link opens your maintained gear page; DM Spark does not import retailer inventory. Check the message and button in the phone preview.
Save, go live, and test
Save the Spark and check that it is Live; if it is a draft or paused, choose Go live and complete any post selection. Send GEAR from a second account and check the kit page. Confirm the camera and lens links identify the exact models.
Publish the invitation and check results
Add the example invitation below to your caption or profile once the test works. Review messages sent, people reached, and link clicks on the Spark. Use the destination platform’s reports to check outcomes beyond link clicks.
Caption and DM copy you can use
Adapt these examples to the resource you actually offer. Replace the example destination with your own tested URL in the link-button field.
- Caption invitationDM me GEAR for the camera, lens, and lighting setup I use for these videos.
- Automatic DMHere’s my current filming kit. The page separates the camera setup from lighting and lists optional accessories.
- Link button labelSee filming gear
What to check before promoting it
An incoming-DM keyword is account-wide. GEAR should have one clear active destination. If you use different equipment for photo and video, list both on the page or use distinct keywords rather than overlapping active DM Sparks.
Send GEAR from a second account and check the kit page. Confirm the camera and lens links identify the exact models.
Choose a simple delivery or an optional sequence
This walkthrough uses One message to deliver the requested link directly. Ask, then send is also available on Free if you want an opening button before the link. Each outgoing DM counts toward your allowance.
On the Creator plan, a sequence can add email capture or an eligible reminder. For comment triggers, the person must tap or reply before another DM can be sent; clicking a website link alone does not count as that reply. Later messages must stay within Instagram’s allowed messaging window. See the Spark setup guide and email capture guide before adding those steps.
Questions
Can the automation identify which reel someone means?
This DM-keyword setup responds to the word in their message. It does not infer a reel or select gear automatically.
Can I use direct product buttons instead of a kit page?
Yes, for up to three destinations. A gear page is easier to maintain when the kit contains more items.
Can I set this up on DM Spark Free?
Yes. This setup uses One message, available on Free with 500 messages per calendar month and one connected account. The Creator plan adds custom sequences and email capture, with 25,000 included messages per billing period.
Why did my test not send a DM?
Check that the Spark is Live, Instagram is connected, the keyword is saved, and you have messages remaining. Send a new DM with the keyword from a second account. Check the Spark’s status for a connection or delivery issue before repeating the test.
