Quick answer

To send a packing list from Instagram story replies, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account to DM Spark, create a story-reply Spark for PACK, and send a message with a link button. Send the public packing checklist or its download page in the DM.

When to use this automation

A packing story shows what fits in your bag. Deliver the complete checklist when someone replies PACK so they can use it before their own trip.

  • TriggerA keyword reply to an Instagram story on your connected account.
  • KeywordPACK
  • DeliverySend the public packing checklist or its download page in the DM.

How to set it up in DM Spark

  1. Prepare the destination

Prepare a checklist for a defined trip: carry-on only, a winter weekend, or a week at the beach. Include the trip length, climate assumptions, and any reusable blanks. Host a printable or mobile-friendly version that opens without a permission request.

  2. Connect Instagram and create a Spark

Sign in to DM Spark on the web and connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Instagram’s login. From the dashboard, choose Create Spark, select the correct connected account, and give it a name that identifies the resource and campaign.

  3. Choose the trigger and scope

Under When someone…, choose “replies to a story”. This keyword matches replies across your stories on this account. Use a distinct word if another live story offers a different resource.

  4. Add PACK as the keyword

Add PACK in the keywords field. Choose With keywords rather than Every reply so unrelated replies do not receive this offer. Use the same word in your public invitation and avoid overlapping active keyword Sparks.

  5. Write the DM and add the link button

Under Then, in their DMs, choose One message. Use this delivery text: “Here’s the five-day summer carry-on checklist. It has a printable version and space to add your own essentials.” Add a link button labeled “Get packing list” and paste your destination URL. Send the public packing checklist or its download page in the DM. Check the message and button in the phone preview.

  6. Save, go live, and test

Save the Spark and check that it is Live; if it is a draft or paused, choose Go live and complete any post selection. Reply PACK from a second account, then check the checklist opens and can be saved or printed from your chosen host.

  7. Publish the invitation and check results

Add the example invitation below to your story once the test works. Review messages sent, people reached, and link clicks on the Spark. Use the destination platform’s reports to check outcomes beyond link clicks.

Caption and DM copy you can use

Adapt these examples to the resource you actually offer. Replace the example destination with your own tested URL in the link-button field.

What to check before promoting it

A story keyword applies across matching story replies on the account. Do not promote PACK for both winter and beach lists at the same time unless they share one selection page. Use different words for different active offers.

Reply PACK from a second account, then check the checklist opens and can be saved or printed from your chosen host.

Choose a simple delivery or an optional sequence

This walkthrough uses One message to deliver the requested link directly. Ask, then send is also available on Free if you want an opening button before the link. Each outgoing DM counts toward your allowance.

On the Creator plan, a sequence can add email capture or an eligible reminder. For comment triggers, the person must tap or reply before another DM can be sent; clicking a website link alone does not count as that reply. Later messages must stay within Instagram’s allowed messaging window. See the Spark setup guide and email capture guide before adding those steps.

Questions

Can I send the list to everyone who watches the story?

No. This Spark responds when someone replies with PACK. Viewing the story alone does not trigger it.

Can I reuse the Spark for my next trip?

Yes. Update the resource and message together, and make sure any live story still promises the resource the Spark now sends.

Can I set this up on DM Spark Free?

Yes. This setup uses One message, available on Free with 500 messages per calendar month and one connected account. The Creator plan adds custom sequences and email capture, with 25,000 included messages per billing period.

Why did my test not send a DM?

Check that the Spark is Live, Instagram is connected, the keyword is saved, and you have messages remaining. Send a new story reply with the keyword from a second account; a story view is not a reply. Check the Spark’s status for a connection or delivery issue before repeating the test.
