Get newsletter signups through Instagram DMs
Share your newsletter’s opt-in form from a DM request.

Quick answer
To get newsletter signups through Instagram DMs, connect your Instagram Business or Creator account to DM Spark, create a DM-keyword Spark for NEWSLETTER, and send a message with a link button. Link to your email platform’s opt-in form; a DM keyword request is not a completed subscription.
When to use this automation
A post can preview the kind of ideas you send by email, then invite viewers to request the signup page. A NEWSLETTER Spark makes that form easy to find while your email platform handles subscription.
- TriggerAn incoming Instagram DM containing your keyword.
- KeywordNEWSLETTER
- DeliveryLink to your email platform’s opt-in form; a DM keyword request is not a completed subscription.
How to set it up in DM Spark
Prepare the destination
Build an opt-in page in your email platform. Explain the newsletter topic, expected frequency, and any welcome resource. Configure confirmation and unsubscribe handling in that platform, and test the full signup journey before inviting requests.
Connect Instagram and create a Spark
Sign in to DM Spark on the web and connect your Instagram Business or Creator account through Instagram’s login. From the dashboard, choose Create Spark, select the correct connected account, and give it a name that identifies the resource and campaign.
Choose the trigger and scope
Under When someone…, choose “sends you a DM”. This keyword applies to incoming DMs on the connected account. Keep it distinct from other active DM-keyword Sparks.
Add NEWSLETTER as the keyword
Add NEWSLETTER in the keywords field. Use the Keywords in the message field. Use the same word in your public invitation and avoid overlapping active keyword Sparks.
Write the DM and add the link button
Under Then, in their DMs, choose One message. Use this delivery text: “Here’s the signup page for my weekly creator business notes. Enter your email there if you’d like to subscribe.” Add a link button labeled “Subscribe to the notes” and paste your destination URL. Link to your email platform’s opt-in form; a DM keyword request is not a completed subscription. Check the message and button in the phone preview.
Save, go live, and test
Save the Spark and check that it is Live; if it is a draft or paused, choose Go live and complete any post selection. Send NEWSLETTER from another account, submit the form with a test address, and complete any confirmation your email platform requires.
Publish the invitation and check results
Add the example invitation below to your caption or profile once the test works. Review messages sent, people reached, and link clicks on the Spark. Use the destination platform’s reports to check outcomes beyond link clicks.
Caption and DM copy you can use
Adapt these examples to the resource you actually offer. Replace the example destination with your own tested URL in the link-button field.
- Caption invitationDM me NEWSLETTER for the signup page for my weekly creator business notes.
- Automatic DMHere’s the signup page for my weekly creator business notes. Enter your email there if you’d like to subscribe.
- Link button labelSubscribe to the notes
What to check before promoting it
On the Creator plan, DM Spark’s email gate saves a contact but does not automatically subscribe them or sync them to an email platform. For this simple setup, use the email platform’s opt-in page so the subscription and confirmation happen in one place.
Send NEWSLETTER from another account, submit the form with a test address, and complete any confirmation your email platform requires.
Choose a simple delivery or an optional sequence
This walkthrough uses One message to deliver the requested link directly. Ask, then send is also available on Free if you want an opening button before the link. Each outgoing DM counts toward your allowance.
On the Creator plan, a sequence can add email capture or an eligible reminder. For comment triggers, the person must tap or reply before another DM can be sent; clicking a website link alone does not count as that reply. Later messages must stay within Instagram’s allowed messaging window. See the Spark setup guide and email capture guide before adding those steps.
Questions
Do I need the Creator plan to send the newsletter signup link?
No. A one-message Spark can send the opt-in link on Free within the message allowance. In-DM email capture is part of the Creator plan.
Can I automatically sync captured contacts to my email platform?
DM Spark does not currently include automatic email-platform sync. Contacts can be exported, but a saved address alone is not marketing permission.
Can I set this up on DM Spark Free?
Yes. This setup uses One message, available on Free with 500 messages per calendar month and one connected account. The Creator plan adds custom sequences and email capture, with 25,000 included messages per billing period.
Why did my test not send a DM?
Check that the Spark is Live, Instagram is connected, the keyword is saved, and you have messages remaining. Send a new DM with the keyword from a second account. Check the Spark’s status for a connection or delivery issue before repeating the test.
